Installing EV chargers at your business can:

  • Attract and retain employees
  • Support sustainability goals
  • Generate additional revenue
  • Prepare for the 2035 petrol/diesel ban
  • Access government grants (WICS)

Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS)

The government's WCS grant covers up to 75% of installation costs, capped at £350 per socket (max 40 sockets per business). Eligibility requirements:

  • Registered UK business, charity, or public authority
  • Off-street parking for employees/fleet
  • Must use OZEV-approved installer and equipment

Types of Commercial Installations

Workplace Charging

For employees to charge during work hours. Typically 7-22kW chargers with access control (RFID, app, or key fob).

Destination Charging

For customer use at retail, hospitality, or leisure venues. Often 7-22kW with payment functionality.

Fleet Charging

For company vehicles. May require multiple chargers with load management to optimise power usage.

Key Considerations

  • Power supply: May need electrical upgrade
  • Number of chargers: Consider current and future needs
  • Access control: How will users authenticate?
  • Payment: Free, paid, or employee reimbursement?
  • Load management: Essential for multiple chargers
