Home Charging Etiquette
Shared Parking Areas
- Don't block access to other spaces while connected
- Move your car when charging is complete (if shared charger)
- Keep cables tidy - don't create trip hazards
- Respect agreed charging schedules with neighbours
If You Share a Charger
- Communicate charging needs with others
- Consider a booking system or rota
- Be flexible during high-demand periods
- Pay your fair share of electricity if billing separately
Public Charging Etiquette
The Golden Rules
- Don't ICE: Never park in EV-only bays if you're not charging
- Move when done: Don't leave your car blocking a charger after it's full
- Don't unplug others: Never disconnect another EV without permission
- Be patient: Wait your turn; don't hover aggressively
Rapid Charger Etiquette
Rapid chargers are for quick top-ups, not full charges. If there's a queue:
- Charge to 80% then move (faster anyway)
- Don't start a 0-100% charge at peak times
- Consider if you really need a rapid charge
Destination Chargers
At hotels, restaurants, etc.:
- Check if charging is for customers only
- Don't hog chargers at busy venues
- Say thanks if it's free - the business is being generous
Dealing with Problems
- ICEd charger: Report via app or contact site owner
- Broken charger: Report it so others know and it gets fixed
- Queue disputes: Stay calm, first come first served
